Annotation
Modern Children Magazine was Hong Kong’s first comprehensive children’s literature magazine[1]. A bi-weekly with front and back covers printed in colour and black-and-white inner-pages, its contents included fairy tales, fables, creative writing by children, biographies, letters from readers, riddles, comics, news and war coverage from around the world, and essays aimed at parents and teachers. Its editor, Huang Qingyun, was a famous writer of Sinophone children’s literature, a field whose development she greatly affected. The magazine’s subscribers came from from as far afield as Guangzhou and Nanjing. This magazine was probably different from one with the same name published in Shanghai in 1946.[2]
