Annotation

Like other publications of Xierong Yinshuguan (Co-prosperous Publishing) such as Funü shijie and Ertong leyuan, Nanxing promoted ‘the coexistence and integration of Chinese and Japanese culture’. It adopted a middle-class, educational approach, reflected in its polished design, with colour used on its covers and some inner pages. Its contents included photographs of war effort during WWII, literature (including some outstanding spy fiction, ‘oceanic novels’ and film scripts that mixed Japanese and Chinese), and seminars about Japanese. Its ‘East Asian Cultural Sphere’ column covered literary events and news from Japan, China (especially Guangzhou), Manchuria and Vietnam. It also published several articles by Masao Inoue, the person-in-charge of the Association of Co-Prosperity of Guangdong.
