A popular magazine about the arts, literature and entertainment scenes in the Chaoshan (Teo-Swa) area that was also distributed in Singapore and Thailand. Contents included film reviews, political commentary, news about various literati and articles on Teochew’s customs and legends. Illustrations ranged from photographs of local officials to snapshots of female descendants of respected families, actresses and female celebrities such as Kang Menglin, Cai Shangmei, Lu Luming, Guo Muying, Jin Bihu, Tan Wenying and Zeng Shupin, along with Chinese paintings, seal prints, nudes and landscapes. Particularly noteworthy was its ‘Poet of this issue’ column that proudly introduced ‘Our Teochow poets’, among them He Zhongpan, Weng Yihe, Liao Shunruo, Gu Shitao and Wang Xianzhao. ‘Chenhailou Shigao Xu (Preface to the poems manuscript of Tower of Sea of Dust)' was published in this column. The magazine’s many advertisements offer a glimpse into the publishing business and cultural industry of the period.
