A fortnightly published on the first and 15th day of each month, Guangzhou Zazhi (‘Guangzhou Magazine’) had a full-colour front page and the same name as a magazine previously published in 1925. Its publisher, Guangzhou Zazhi She, also published a ‘half-cent’ book series. The magazine’s contents included satirical comic strips, black-curtain fiction (exposé) and erotic fiction, with articles were written in classical Chinese, vernacular Chinese and Cantonese. Its series included ‘A comic about Mr. Chan’, while its ‘Canton New Stuff’ page featured fashionable items and gossip from the city.
